Train shears bed off pickup truck at railroad crossing south of Kennewick

A train slammed into a pickup truck in Finley on Wednesday afternoon but the driver and a passenger were not seriously hurt.

The Dodge pickup appeared to have been on the railroad crossing on Toothaker Road southeast of Kennewick when the train ran into the bed of the truck just after 1 p.m.

Man in his 40s, who was conscious and talking with emergency crews, was taken to a hospital to be evaluated, a fire official said.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.

This is the second crash along the same stretch of the railroad tracks in recent weeks.

On March 18, two men escaped being hurt after their pickup became high-centered on the railroad tracks near Hover Park. They were outside the truck when the train hit it.
