Train slams into pickup truck high-centered on Finley railroad tracks

Two young men escaped with their lives after getting their pickup stuck on the train tracks southeast of Kennewick.

The men were at Hover Park near Meals and Toothaker roads with plans to ride their motorcycles, said the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.

They tried driving over the tracks, but got high-centered.

They noticed the approaching Burlington Northern Santa Fe train, and climbed out of the way.

The truck wasn’t as lucky.

It was pushed more than 100 yards down the tracks before the engine could stop.

Deputies reminded drivers to cross at authorized crossings in Hover Park to avoid a potentially deadly crash.

“Your life, others’ lives and your property aren’t worth the shortcut,” the sheriff’s office posted.
