Firefighters battling large wildfire in northern Franklin County

Firefighters are battling a blaze east of Connell that has reportedly burned 250 acres in a wheat field.

Franklin County firefighters are battling a blaze that started in a wheat field, according to dispatch reports.

The blaze began about 5:20 p.m. off of Stine Road east of Connell. When firefighters arrived they discovered about 250 acres in a wheat field burning.

It’s unclear at this point whether that wheat was still being grown or whether it had been cut down.

It has sent a large plume of smoke up in the area.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
