A Kennewick family has been forced out of their home after a fire Tuesday night.

The Kennewick Fire Department responded to a call about a residential fire on the 300 block of E. First Ave. about 10:45 p.m. after a caller reported a roof on fire, according to a news release from the fire department.

A fire engine arrived within four minutes and saw smoke and a fire coming from an attic.

An adult and three children were home at the time of the fire, but were able to safely evacuate. They tried to put out the fire with fire extinguishers before help arrived.

Firefighters brought it under control within about 15 minutes. Kennewick police and Pasco Fire Department also assisted.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appears to have started in the attic.

The American Red Cross is helping the displaced family.

Red Cross can help with emergency shelter, food, clothing and other urgent needs, according to a news release from the nonprofit. Anyone interested in helping can donate to the organization’s disaster relief fund.
