Heroic pup helps woman safely escape early morning Kennewick house fire
A Kennewick woman escaped a house fire thanks to her heroic dog, Lolli.
Kennewick firefighters were from Fire Station 1 returning from a call when they got a report of a house fire nearby, around 2:50 a.m. Friday.
They responded in less than two minutes to find an accessory dwelling unit on fire on the 400 block of South Rainier Street, according to a news release.
The resident told firefighters she didn’t hear the smoke alarm, but was alerted by her bulldog, helping them to both escape unharmed.
Crews were able to contain the fire and ensure it did not spread to nearby homes.
More crews soon arrived and searched the building to make sure nobody else was inside. Kennewick Fire Department was assisted by Pasco Fire Department and Benton County Fire District 1.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Kennewick Fire Chief Michael Heffner said in a news release that the fire served as “a powerful reminder of how quickly a fire can spread and the importance of having smoke alarms installed in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of a home — including the basement.”
