CBC hosts free events about impacts of human trafficking. Don’t miss last day
Columbia Basin College and local organizations hope to bring awareness to the dangers of human trafficking this week.
Their multi-day campaign includes several free events for attendees on the Pasco campus.
On Tuesday morning, 108 people gathered to form a human chain that stretched from the Social Sciences and World Language building to the Hawk Union Building. The number represented how many residents in the region are victims to the act.
These events are being organized by CBC in collaboration with the Associated Students of CBC Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society, SARC, Rotary Club, Soroptomist International and Mirror Ministries.
- At 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, David Zach, a nationally recognized human trafficking undercover operative, will give a presentation in the Gjerde Center followed by a Q&A with a panel of experts from SARC and Mirror Ministries.
- Between 8 a.m. and 1:40 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, several educational films and documentaries on human trafficking featuring David Zach will be aired. This will take place at the Planetarium.
Human trafficking is a global issue that impacts vulnerable individuals. Traffickers prey on people of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities, and exploit them for their own profit.
More than 28 million have been trafficked worldwide, and the Department of Justice estimated that between 14,000 and 17,000 people are trafficked in the U.S. each year.
