1 hurt fleeing dramatic fire that destroyed a home near Prosser
One person was reported injured escaping from a house engulfed by fire Monday night near Prosser.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said the woman who was home was injured while fleeing the burning structure. The home was destroyed.
West Benton Fire Rescue was alerted to the burning home in the area of West King Tull Road and North 1469 PR Northwest, east of North Missimer Road about 11 p.m., the department posted on its Facebook page.
Firefighters found the single story home engulfed in flames. They called for help from Yakima County Fire District 5 and Benton County Fire Protection District 2, the West Benton Fire Rescue said in a Facebook.
Crews worked through the night to put out the blaze. The fire destroyed the home, leaving behind a pile of wreckage.
The homeowner had called from a neighboring home to report the fire. She said she had hit her head while running from the residence, according to dispatch reports.
West Benton Fire Rescue said she was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. No firefighters were hurt fighting the fire.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
West Benton Fire Rescue officials had no further information about the fire to release on Tuesday.
