It’s the final few days to sponsor wreaths for fallen Tri-City veterans.

The city of Pasco says orders for Wreaths Across America must be placed by the end of Friday, Nov. 28.

They are hoping to repeat last year’s effort to place evergreen wreaths on the graves of each of the 970 veterans resting at City View Cemetery.

Similar efforts are underway at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick and Sunset Gardens in Richland. Across the three events, more than 3,800 veterans still need wreaths sponsored.

A $17 sponsorship decorates a single grave. There are still nearly 600 left that need sponsoring in Pasco, said city officials.

This is Pasco’s third year participating.

“You can request that your wreath be placed on a specific grave, or even make a special request to place the wreath yourself — and when you place an order, you will have the option of buying an additional wreath, at the same price, that can be sent directly to your home or to a loved one,” said an announcement from Pasco city staff.

In communities nationwide, millions of volunteers will place wreaths on the graves of veterans during the month of December. Wreaths Across America began at Arlington National Cemetery in 1992.

Events will take place at more than 5,200 cemeteries nationwide on Saturday, Dec. 13. Tri-City events will take place at 11 a.m. at the three cemeteries.
