Usually, Hawai’i and California drivers pay more at the pump.
While it’s generally more expensive to gas up on the west side of the Cascade Mountains, getting gas can be pricey all across Washington.

How do Washington gas prices compare to California? The US?
As of Friday, Sept. 26, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline across the United States was $3.14, according to AAA.
Gas cost considerably more in Washington state, where the statewide average was about $4.56 a gallon as of Friday, the automobile association said.
On Sept. 15, Washington state drivers were paying about $4.65 per gallon on average, while California’s statewide average was cheaper by about half a cent. The average price of gas in Hawai’i was about $4.48 a gallon on that date.
California has since overtaken Washington as the U.S. state with the most expensive gas, according to AAA.
As of Friday, Sept. 26, gas cost about $4.64 a gallon on average in California, the automobile association said.
Hawai’i had the third highest gas prices in the nation as of Friday, with drivers paying about $4.48 per gallon on average, according to AAA.
Are gas costs increasing in Washington state?
Over the past month, the average price of gas in Washington state has increased overall, with prices at the pump averaging $4.40 per gallon statewide on Aug. 25.
In September 2024, gas cost about $4.09 a gallon on average in Washington state.
