Are gas prices up in Eastern Washington? Here’s how much you’ll pay at the pump

Are you paying more to fill up your tank in Eastern Washington?

Gas prices tend to rise in Washington state in the summer due to an increase in demand and refineries switching to a more stable gasoline blend that’s pricier to produce, the Tri-City Herald previously reported.

Washington drivers are paying 6 more cents per gallon due to a gas tax increase that went into effect in July.

How much were prices impacted at the pump in Eastern Washington? How does the region compare to the rest of the state and the country?

How do nationwide gas costs compare to Washington state?

As of Monday, Aug. 25, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline across the United States was about $3.16, according to AAA.

The average is considerably higher for Washington state, where gas averaged about $4.40 per gallon as of Monday.

That’s an increase of less than 1 cent since July 25, when gas averaged $3.16 per gallon in the United States and $4.39 a gallon in Washington state, the Herald previously reported.

In August 2024, the average price of a gallon of regular gas was $3.35 nationwide and $4.18 in Washington state.

Only two states have more expensive gas than Washington: California and Hawai’i, according to AAA.

On average, drivers in the other 47 U.S. states pay less than $4 per regular gallon, the automobile association said.

Which Washington counties have cheapest gas?

Typically, gas is cheaper east of the Cascades than west. Where can you find the most affordable prices?

According to AAA, these Washington counties had the lowest average prices for a gallon of regular gas as of Monday:

  • Asotin: $3.69
  • Spokane: $4.06
  • Franklin: $4.11
  • Stevens: $4.12
  • Yakima: $4.13
  • Lincoln: $4.15
  • Ferry: $4.15

For comparison, the most expensive gas in Washington state could be found in these counties, AAA said:

  • San Juan: $5.42
  • Pacific: $4.76
  • Wahkiakum: $4.75
  • Jefferson: $4.72
  • Columbia: $4.70
  • King: $4.64
  • Grays Harbor: $4.55
  • Mason: $4.51
