Noticed rising gas prices? Here’s how much gas costs at the pump in Washington
Gas prices typically rise as the summer approaches, but what about this year?
The warmer months typically coincide with an increase in demand, and refineries switch to the more stable but gasoline blend for the summer, which is more expensive to produce.
On top of the natural ebb and flow of gas prices, several factors are impacting the price Washingtonians are paying at the pump. Last week saw the U.S. strike Iran amid increasing conflict with Israel, and some experts say tensions in the Middle East have impacted gas prices.
That’s all before Washington state increases its gas tax by $0.06 on July 1. Between the new gas tax rate and the impact of tensions in the Middle East, here’s where Washington gas prices stand.
Gas prices on the rise
According to AAA, the national average cost per gallon is rising, currently at $3.23 per gallon of regular gas. A month ago, the average was $3.18.
In Washington state, that number is even higher. The current average is $4.46 per regular gallon, the third-highest of any state in the country, up from $4.42 a month ago.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration has slightly different estimates. EIA lists the average price of a gallon of gas in Washington state at $4.38 for the week ending June 23. That’s $0.07 higher than the previous week and the highest weekly average since June of 2024.
Here is how much gas currently costs per gallon across the state.
Western Washington gas prices
On the west side, it’s currently difficult to find gas under $4.30 per regular gallon, according to AAA.
