Kennewick couple hurt and teen critically injured in highway crash
A Kennewick couple and a College Place teen were hurt in a two-car crash in Walla Walla on Friday afternoon, said the Washington State Patrol.
Kaelin Smith, 18, of College Place, was in critical condition at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland Saturday afternoon.
She was driving a Toyota Corolla north on Wilbur Avenue in Walla Walla at 4:15 p.m. Friday.
She failed to yield to eastbound traffic at Highway 12 and her car was hit by a Toyota Tacoma pickup being driven east on the highway by Richard Meyer, 71, of Kennewick, according to the WSP.
Sally Meyer, 71, of Kennewick, was a passenger in the pickup.
Smith was taken to the Richland hospital, and the Meyers were taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. The Meyers’ conditions were not immediately available Saturday.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the crash, according to the WSP.
The cause remains under investigation, and charges against Smith are pending, according to the WSP.
