A Kennewick man is dead after crashing his sport utility vehicle early Saturday on Interstate 90.

Donald S. Scott, 62, was driving a Jeep SUV east about 25 miles past Ellensburg at about 4:45 a.m. He was approaching the bridge over the Columbia River at Vantage when he lost control of the SUV, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

The SUV hit a dirt embankment and rolled, coming to rest 60 feet off the pavement, according to a WSP report.

Scott died before he could be taken to a hospital.

The WSP says drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash and that Scott was not wearing a seat belt.
