Rescuers were searching the Columbia River on the Oregon-Washington border for a missing man on Monday.

Details about the suspected drowning remain thin, except that the man went into the river near McNary Dam, according to a Benton County, WA Sheriff’s Facebook post.

That’s about 30 miles south of the Tri-Cities. That area of the Columbia River is a popular fishing spot from boats and the bank.

The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office is in charge of the search but could not be reached Monday.

Benton County sent a sheriff’s department boat to help with the search. They were joined by volunteers with Columbia Basin Dive Rescue in the Tri-Cities.
