A drone located a missing man who was dangerously close to developing hypothermia after his truck was discovered at the Candy Mountain trailhead, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office reported early Sunday morning.

The sheriff’s office and West Richland Police Department launched two drones, with one equipped with thermal imaging spotting the man, who was asleep.

“The drone operator woke him just in time, and he was brought to safety before his body temperature could drop further,” Benton County Sheriff’s Office posed on social media.

Nighttime temperatures this weekend have dropped into the low 50s in the Tri-Cities area.

No more information was available on Sunday.
