Memorial Day weekend events to honor service members in Tri-Cities
This Memorial Day weekend in the Tri-Cities, there are several ways to honor U.S. military members who died during service.
City View Cemetery in Pasco
Pasco plans a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. May 26 at City View Cemetery at 1300 N. Oregon Ave. The event to honor the service and sacrifice of U.S. armed forces member is open to the public.
The ceremony will include:
- Remarks by Sgt. Maj. Walter Castilleja Jr.
- The National Anthem and other songs performed by local artists Vickie Evans and Scott Sandifer.
- Wreath presentation.
- Flag-raising by the American Legion Post 34 honor guard and the Tri-Cities Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol.
- Military honors, including a moment of silence, soldier’s poem, rifle volleys and “Taps.”
- The Story of the Poppy by Mayor Pro Tem David Milne.
- “God Bless America” led by Mayor Pete Serrano.
Sunset Gardens in Richland
Sunset Gardens cemetery and Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home at 915 Bypass Highway in Richland plans two days of community events on Sunday and Monday.
The events center will offer free hot dogs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
On Monday, Sunset Gardens will host a one-hour ceremony starting at 11 a.m. with guest speaker U.S. Navy Captain Aaron Pickett.
More than 1,100 American flags will be flown at the cemetery.
There will be other activities from noon to 2 p.m, including live music, face painting, free hot dogs and snow cones.
A skydiver will land with a 1,500-square-foot American flag.
Mueller’s Funeral Home in Kennewick
Members of VFW Post 5785 will lead Memorial Day services at two Mueller’s Funeral Home cemeteries in Kennewick on Monday.
The group will start with a 9 a.m. service at Riverview Heights Cemetery, at 1200 S. Olympia St.
At 11 a.m., they will move to Desert Lawn Memorial Park, at 1401 S. Union St., for a second service.
