Organizations throughout Tri-Cities are working to educate and support the local immigrant community, amid growing fears about more ICE arrests in Washington and nationwide.

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Tri-Cities is hosting a free event on Thursday, Jan. 30.

The Preparing for Immigration Changes presentation will be at Ochoa Middle School in Pasco from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday. It will be held in English and Spanish with interpreters available.

Immigration lawyers will present and explain basic rights, legal defense resources, options for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and the process of gaining legal documentation for individuals and families.

Heritage University is hosting three upcoming virtual Zoom sessions with local immigration lawyers.

Advance online registration is required. The first session on Monday, Feb. 3 is a presentation on immigrant rights. The second session will focus on navigating immigration procedures, including applying for bond in detention and common types of asylum applications, and the final session is about preventing fraud.

Immigration lawyers George Moreno from Moreno Immigration Law in Richland and Angelita Chavez from The Chavez Firm in Kennewick will present.

All three sessions will be in English and Spanish. The second and third sessions are not yet scheduled.
