A 10-mile stretch of highway east of Hermiston reopened early Wednesday after problems with a culvert caused a partial collapse of the roadway.

Highway 730 east of Cold Springs Junction in Umatilla County was shut down about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday to fix damage caused by a failing culvert under the road, the Oregon Department of Transportation said.

The culvert initially failed in mid-April, but was temporarily repaired. The work on Tuesday was aimed at permanently fixing the problem.

It was closed all day Tuesday for the repair work.

The closed section of the highway that started about nine miles east of Umatilla opened at 5:30 a.m.
