Dessert-making sisters to celebrate new Kennewick cake studio. Other new food options
Two dessert-making sisters are finally getting a place of their own.
Layered Cake Artistry is having a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, Jan. 3, at their new downtown Kennewick studio.
The ceremony is at 4 p.m. followed by an open house until 4-6 p.m. at 117 W. Kennewick Ave.
Elena Gavin and Concetta Gulluni initially leased space a couple blocks away at the Red Mountain Commercial Kitchen before eventually investing in the major renovation for their new bakery, consulting rooms and demonstration kitchen.
They call it a “cake studio” rather than bakery, though they offer a dessert counter with treats and coffee Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
They take dessert orders Tuesdays through Saturdays at 509-579-0299. And offer various baking and cake decorating classes. They can be followed Layered Cake Artistry on Facebook @layeredcakeartistry and on Instagram.
Chester’s Chicken
Another Chester’s Chicken outlet is opening in the Tri-Cities.
A Chester’s Chicken franchise recently began serving up fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits and more at the new convenience store at the Dallas Road exit off Interstate 82, near the Country Mercantile.
Now you’ll be able to grab a bite in Kennewick at the Mr. G’s Bottle Shop convenience store on the roundabout at Fourth Avenue and Union Street, near Highland’s Middle School.
The Alabama-based quick-service chain dating to the 1950’s has about 1,000 locations worldwide.
Mexican food
A new taco spot is now open on Columbia Center Boulevard.
Taqueria El Molcajete is serving up Mexican cuisine in the former location of El Chapala at 321 N Columbia Center Blvd., across from Sporthaus.
The menu features tacos, burritos, tortas and quesadillas.
Hours are 10:30a.m. to 8 p.m.
El Chapala moved down the block to the corner location of the long-popular Chico’s Tacos at Clearwater Avenue and Columbia Center.
Hydrotonix Water
Hydronix Water has opened in Pasco, offering systems that filter water and then boost its hydrogen to provide a hydrogen-rich water.
Owner Jose Iniguez says using the water for drinking and preparing food and beverages helps restore the human body to a more alkaline state that is optimal for good health.
The business is at 102 S. Third Ave., and is open weekdays. Learn more at hydrotonixwater.com.
