Larry Haler has knee replacement on eve of election

Washington Rep. Larry Haler, R-Richland, is recuperating from having his left knee replaced on Oct. 27.

Haler is challenged by Tri-City businessman Steve Simmons to represent the state’s Eighth Legislative District in Olympia.

Haler’s campaign staff stated the procedure was performed in the Tri-Cities and includes physical therapy.

Haler and the challenger in the Nov. 8 general election. It is a tense race centered on Haler’s last-minute “no” vote on a $16 billion transportation package funded by a hike in the gasoline tax.

Simmons and his wife own the Country Gentleman restaurant and catering business.
