No Tri-Cities fireworks on July 4 this year. Pasco parade also canceled

The Tri-Cities is putting on hold its big Fourth of July events this year because of the new coronavirus pandemic.

There will be no River of Fire fireworks display in Columbia Park this year, according to the city of Kennewick and the Carousel Foundation Board of Directors, which took over organization of the event this year.

The fireworks vendor for the event will carry over its contract and fireworks that have been purchased to 2021.

In Pasco, the Grand Old 4th Parade also has been canceled.

There will be no fireworks show at the Gesa Stadium in Pasco on July 4, but city of Pasco officials plan to find a date later in the year for the fireworks show.

Organizers of the events said they looked at many options to try to adhere to state guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 before deciding to postpone or cancel events.

Benton City also will not be having its traditional events.

There will be no Lions Club fireworks show, flag-raising ceremony or kids parade, according to the Benton City Chamber of Commerce.

A lighted procession is planned starting around 10 p.m. July 4 at the KiBe High School. The route had not been determined yet.

Residents are invited to decorate cars, trucks, trailers, scooters and horses to take part in the procession. A registration form and more information is posted at bentoncitychamber.org.

Each of the Tri-Cities and West Richland have restrictions on the use of personal fireworks and residents are urged to follow restrictions.

The use of personal fireworks are banned in Kennewick.

Fireworks are permitted in Pasco, Richland and West Richland, with varying restrictions on some types.
