New at Tri-Cities mall: ‘Eatertainment’ restaurant, Five Below and more

Columbia Center, the Simon Properties-owned mall in central Kennewick, is adding several new tenants, including the second local edition of the popular discount retailer Five Below.

The discount retailer will occupy the long-closed Old Country Buffet spot between Home Goods and Designer Shoe Warehouse.

Five Below submitted building permits this month to renovate the 10,172-square-foot space, according to Kennewick building records.

The building permit and a separate application to install signs on the side of the building are pending.

The project has an estimated construction value of about $200,000.

Five Below made its Tri-Cities debut in October when it opened in the former Party City spot in Richland’s Vintner Square, 2907 Queensgate Drive.

Its future Kennewick location is on the south side of Columbia Center, across the parking lot from Dick’s and Barnes & Noble Booksellers.

Philadelphia-based Five Below (Nasdaq FIVE) focuses on extreme value items with most items priced between $1 and $5.

It operates nearly 2,000 stores in 46 states. Go to fivebelow.com.

Old Country Buffet closed its mall location in 2019 before filing for bankruptcy and going out of business. A second Old Country Buffet on Canal Drive was rebuilt recently as a Panera Bread and urgent care clinic.

JD Sports now open

Columbia Center officials announced the grand opening JD Sports, a sneaker, sportswear and apparel retailer.

JD Sports is a global company founded in England. It operates nearly 4,900 stores in 49 countries.

Dave & Buster’s ‘eatertainment’ chain

Kennewick city officials confirmed to The Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business that Dave & Buster’s will move into the area of the former Sears store that was briefly occupied by Joann before the craft and fabric chain went out of business.

The chain has 200 locations nationwide and features a combination full-service restaurant and high-tech gaming arcade under the same roof. It’s known for the motto: Eat. Drink. Play. Watch.
