West Coast’s Habit Burger announces opening date, giveaways in Kennewick
Kennewick’s newest fast-food offering, Habit Burger & Grill, will open next week in the city’s busiest retail areas near Columbia Center mall.
“Excited to share that Habit Burger & Grill is continuing its Washington expansion with the opening of its newest Tri-Cities restaurant in Kennewick on Wednesday, May 20,” said a release.
The restaurant at 7415 W. Canal Drive will feature dine-in seating, as well as on-demand pickup or delivery via the app or online ordering.
“Known for its open-flame cooking and California-inspired menu, Habit has earned national recognition from USA Today 10Best for the #1 Burger, #1 Side, and #1 Fast Casual Restaurant,” said the release.
Two pre-opening events are planned:
- Free Charburger Day is May 16 when the first 200 customers from noon to 5 p.m. will get a free Charburger, fries and drink. You need to register at this link to claim it.
- On May 19, the restaurant is hosting a community preview fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. to benefit Columbia Ability Alliance, a local nonprofit that helps individuals with disabilities find jobs, training and community involvement.
As part of its May 20 grand opening, there will be special giveaways starting at 10:30 a.m., while supplies last. The first 500 customers will receive a Flavor Passport, valued at over $20, to try other menu items on future visits.
Also, the first 100 customers will receive a custom Habit tote bag filled with surprises, said the release.
“Kennewick has a great vibe,” said Jason Triail, executive chef at Habit, in a release. “With all the sunshine and river life, it feels like a natural fit for our fresh, cooked-to-order food. We’re fired up to get cooking ....”
The menu features its signature Charburger meal (starting at $12.59) and other variations, such as a Portabella Char, Teriyaki Char, BBQ Bacon Char and Ahi Tuna Filet Sandwich meal ($17.49).
There’s also grilled chicken sandwiches, as well as several salads, family boxes for four ($35), hand-spun shakes, kids meals and sides of fries, tempura green beans and chicken bites.
Habit Burger already operates a drive-thru at 2831 Duportail Street in Richland.
The Kennewick Habit will be situated between a Burger King on one side and an Arby’s across the parking lot on the other.
The redevelopment echoes a string of projects that have delivered new chain restaurants to Canal Drive.
In 2025, Panera Bread opened in the renovated former Old County Buffet, and Chick-fil-A opened on a former strip of asphalt in front of Hobby Lobby.
Habit Burger is opening in part of the former site of David’s Bridal.
David’s Bridal closed its 7,700-square-foot bridal salon in 2023 after the company dissolved in bankruptcy.
The David’s building is part of the prominent but low-key Tri-Cities Center, a 14.2-acre retail center anchored by Burlington Coat Factory at West Canal Drive and Columbia Center Boulevard.
BPG Investments and Bellevue-based Startup Development Partners purchased the property for $10.5 million in 2025 and pledged to give it a facelift and bring new tenants to its empty spaces, including the old bridal salon.
Habit Burger started in Southern California in 1969 with a focus on its burgers cooked to order over an open flame. They expanded beyond burgers, adding “California-inspired flavors,” says the company.
The Kennewick Habit Burger will be open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Habit Burger can be found on Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok.
