Hot air balloons set to fill the skies as annual Prosser event returns. How to watch
The weather is cooling off, but one of the hottest events of the year is coming up.
The 33rd annual Great Prosser Balloon Rally is set to fire up the skies next weekend at the Port of Benton’s Prosser Airport.
The event will kick off at sunrise on Friday, Sept. 23, and run through Sunday, according to a news release from rally organizers. Spectators will want to be there between 6:45 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. to watch the balloons take off.
The nightglow is set for dusk on Saturday at Art Fiker Stadium, 1433 Paterson Rd.
At a nightglow, the balloon pilots fire up their burners in a show set to music featuring synchronized lighting of the tethered balloons. Gates open at 6 p.m.
The rally and parking are free and open to the public, and can also be seen from the parks at the nearby Prosser Bridge on the Yakima River.
Masks are required and social distancing is encouraged for the safety of pilots, staff and spectators, said the news release.
This year’s lineup features 17 balloons.
