The public is invited to give its input into the city of Kennewick’s plan to replace the Playground of Dreams with a new structure.

City staff and members of the parks and recreation commission will share design concepts, answer questions and get feedback from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at the playground in Columbia Park. It will be the final opportunity for the public to speak up.

The city says that the nearly 18-years-old structure is beyond repair and that a rebuild is the most fiscally responsible option. A new structure would be more welcoming to children with a variety of disabilities, as well. It hopes to raise private money for the project, which is expected in 2018.

More than 1,000 volunteers helped build the original Playground of Dreams in 1999. It was rebuilt in 2004 after an arson fire destroyed the playground.
