Sarthou, Americans shut down Everett Silvertips
Evan Sarthou turned in a brilliant performance in net, and Parker Wotherspoon scored the game-winner to lead the Tri-City Americans to a 2-1 victory over the U.S. Division-leading Everett Silvertips before a crowd of 4,642 at Toyota Center.
Sarthou finished with 29 saves, allowing just a second-period goal to Patrick Bajkov.
“He played very well. He made some saves when they had some good chances,” Tri-City coach Mike Williamson said of his goalie. “It was a big game for him.”
The Americans, who in striving to stay alive in the playoff hunt, are at Spokane tonight.
“We desperately needed these points,” Williamson said. “We talked about how the Everett and Spokane games will dictate whether we can get enough points to get in the playoffs. This is a good start.”
The Americans got a solid game from the Mackenze Stewart-Max James-Austyn Playfair line. At one point, Stewart upended an Everett player into the Americans’ bench.
“That line asserted itself and kept the team going,” Williamson said.
Jordan Topping opened the scoring for Tri-City (21-25-2-0, 44 points) at 10:43 of the first period. Wotherspoon would make it 2-0 at 14:40 of the second before Bajkov scored 3 minutes later.
Carter Hart had 15 saves for Everett (28-15-2-2, 60 points), which has lost three in a row.
