Americans fall to Chiefs 8-1 in Western Hockey League action

Nik Andersen scored two goals in the third period as the Spokane Chiefs skated to an 8-1 victory over the Tri-City Americans before a Saturday night crowd of 4,618 at Toyota Center.

Tri-City (6-10-1-0, 13 points) got its lone goal from Parker Bowles on the power play in the second period to trim Spokane’s lead to 3-1.

Evan Sarthou had 24 saves in the loss, while rookie Nick Sanders had four saves in playing the final 16:32.

Spokane (8-7-2-1, 19 points), which has points in its last five games, saw rookie Matt Berlin pick up his first WHL win with 25 saves.

Curtis Miske had a goal and two assists, while Evan Fiala, Keanu Yamamoto and Dominic Zwerger each had a goal and an assist for Spokane, which has won all three games against the Americans this season.

Tri-City, which has lost two in a row, will host the Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday.
