Americans’ point streak ends with loss to Portland
Joachim Blichfeld and Kieffer Bellows each had three-point nights as the Portland Winterhawks put an end to the Tri-City Americans’ 11-game point streak Saturday night at the Moda Center in Portland.
Blichfeld scored two goals and had an assist in Portland’s 5-2 victory, which included two empty-net goals in the final 1:54 of the game.
It was the first meeting of the season for the teams, which share the lead in the U.S. Division with 26 points.
The Americans (12-5-2-0), 7-1-2-0 in their past 10 games, got goals from Max James and Morgan Geekie, but they didn’t have enough firepower to counter the Winterhawks.
Bellows, who scored the final goal of the game with 1 second remaining, handed out two assists on the night, as did Cody Glass.
Patrick Dea took the loss for Tri-City, turning away 44 of 47 shots.
The Americans return to Toyota Center for a seven-game homestand, starting Friday against Prince Albert.
