Yaremko nets 2 more, but Americans fall to Vancouver Giants in OT

After opening the preseason by scoring a hat trick on Friday, Nolan Yaremko poured in two more goals Sunday, but the Tri-City Americans suffered their first loss of the Everett Preseason Classic, falling to the Vancouver Giants 5-4 in overtime.

Ty Ronning caught fire late, scoring the tying and game-winning goals as part of his hat trick to lead the Giants (2-1).

Yaremko got the Americans (2-1) off to a fast start with two power-play goals in the first 12 minutes, the first assisted by Michael Rasmussen and Riley Sawchuk, and the second by Sergei Sapego. Sasha Mutala scored early in the second period and Keltie Jeri-Leon scored late, also on a power play, to give Tri-City a 4-1 advantage heading into the third.

However, two goals by Ronning in the last 5:11 and an assist near the mid-point of the third period were enough to tie the game at 4-all and send it to overtime. Ronning scored the game-winning goal with an assist from Matt Barbeis 4:14 into the extra period.

The Americans continue their preseason slate at home against the Kootenay Ice at 7:05 p.m. Thursday. They begin the regular season on the road against the Seattle Thunderbirds on Sept. 23.
