Tri-City Americans drop second game in a row at Prince George

Jordan Topping and Morgan Geekie each had a goal and an assist, but for the second night in a row, the Tri-City Americans dropped a game at Prince George.

The Cougars got goals from five players in their 5-3 victory over the Americans on Wednesday.

Ty Edmonds finished with 22 saves as PG (24-8-2-0, 50 points) increased its lead in the B.C. Division to eight points over Kamloops.

In the U.S. Division, the Americans (19-13-3-0, 41 points), who play at Everett on Friday, trail the first-place Silvertips by eight points. Tri-City’s lead over No. 3 Portland shrank to two points.

After trailing 2-0 in the first period, the Americans got a goal from Geekie to close out the period. Michael Rasmussen scored 19 seconds into the second period to knot the score at 2.

Brogan O’Brien gave the Cougars a 3-2 lead before Topping scored at 13:26 to even things out. But Prince George scored the next two goals to improve to 3-0 against Tri-City this season.

Rylan Parenteau finished with 32 saves for the Americans, who were outshot 37-25.

The Americans, whose power play ranks third in the Western Hockey League, went 0-for-4 on the night. But their penalty kill, which ranks fifth in the league, was 6-for-7.
