Lukin scores twice to lead Tri-City Americans over Portland

The Tri-City Americans have been having success on the road, so much so that they have picked up five points in their past three games to jump into second place in the U.S. Division.

Vladislav Lukin scored two goals, including the game-winner at 13:53 of the third period, as the Americans handed the Portland Winterhawks a 4-3 loss Tuesday at Memorial Coliseum.

Tri-City (8-5-1-0, 17 points) leapfrogged Portland (8-5-0-0, 16 points) in the standings with the win. The Americans play Thursday at division-leading Everett (9-2-2-0, 20 points).

The Americans opened the scoring with a goal by Kurtis Rutledge — his first of the season — only to see Portland’s Keegan Iverson knot the score 1 minute and 34 seconds later.

Lukin and Parker AuCoin scored 37 seconds apart early in the second period to open up a 3-1 lead over the Winterhawks, who got a goal from Evan Weinger with 18 seconds remaining in the period to pull his team to within 3-2.

Portland tied the score at 3 with a goal by Cody Glass 2:37 into the third period. After Lukin scored his second goal of the game, the Americans held off the Winterhawks for their second consecutive Tuesday night win in Portland.

Rylan Parenteau finished with 30 saves for the Americans, while Cole Kehler had 27 for Portland.
