Fever hires Whitehead to coaching staff
Steven Whitehead’s days with the Tri-Cities Fever are not over.
The talented wide receiver — named the IFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2015, the last of his four years with the Fever — was hired as the team’s wide receivers/strength and conditioning coach Wednesday.
“I can’t stay away from the game for too long so I decided to take up coaching,” Whitehead posted on Facebook. “Thanks to the Tri Cities Fever for all they have already done for me and allowing me to close the door on my playing career. But I really want to thank them for allowing me the opportunity to begin my coaching career.”
Whitehead is an owner and trainer at Elite Ambitions Training in Kennewick.
Last season, he piled up 81 catches for 1,032 yards, both tops in the IFL. He was No. 2 in the league in receiving touchdowns (17) and scoring (23 TDs total and six extra points). His four 100-yard receiving games also ranked first in the league.
