Ice cools off Fever

The Tri-Cities Fever saw its three-game Indoor Football League winning streak die Saturday night in Colorado.

Fever quarterback Dante Warren’s pass into the end zone as time expired was broken up, and the Ice held on for a 39-35 victory.

The loss drops Tri-Cities to 4-7 with three regular-season games remaining.

The Ice improves to 7-3, and with the Nebraska Danger holding a 7-4 record in second place, the Fever cannot lose another game and needs the teams ahead of it to lose their remaining games if Tri-Cities is going to make the playoffs.

The Fever took a 35-32 lead with 4:48 remaining in the game when kicker Dan Kleckner, acquired earlier this week, connected on a 22-yard field goal. But Colorado responded with just 18 seconds remaining, as quarterback Wille Copeland hit Matthew Roark on a 23-yard touchdown pass for the 39-35 lead.

Warren had a monster game, passing for 150 yards and two touchdowns, and rushing for 125 more yards and scoring another TD. The two teams meet again next Saturday at the Toyota Center.
