Fever beats Wyoming for fourth win in a row

Last week, the Tri-Cities Fever’s special teams got the team jump-started with some key plays.

On Saturday night, it was the Fever defense’s turn to provide a spark.

The Fever shut out the host Wyoming Cavalry in the second half, and the Tri-Cities offense finally got untracked to score three unanswered touchdowns in a 33-16 Indoor Football League victory.

It was the Fever’s first road victory this season, and the team has won three straight games to improve to 4-6.

“We are officially back in the playoff hunt,” said Fever coach Adam Shackleford. “I was really happy with our resilience tonight.”Tri-Cities trailed 16-13 at halftime when Wyoming’s Josiah Powell kicked a 48-yard field goal as time expired.

In the second half, though, Fever defensive back Lionell Singleton intercepted a pass to stop a drive, and Tri-Cities running back Keithon Flemming scored on a 2-yard run to give the Fever a 19-16 lead.

Brady Beeson’s ensuing kickoff hit a Cavalry front liner, and the Fever recovered the ball.

Two plays later, Dante Warren connected with Flemming on a 13-yard TD pass and a 26-16 lead.

Interceptions by Dontae Coleman and Rudell Crim stopped other Cavalry drives, and Warren finished the scoring when he connected Bobby Guillory on a 44-yard TD strike.

“Rudell Crim coming back (from a chest contusion) has made a difference for us,” said Shackleford.

Tri-Cities is two games back from second-place Nebraska with four games remaining in the regular season.The Fever visits the Colorado Ice next Saturday.
