Richland’s Nate Ruane heading to National Baseball Congress World Series

Nate Ruane (Richland) led the San Diego Waves of the Western Baseball Association in on-base percentage (.493) and led all starters in hitting at .339 during the regular season.

Ruane, who will be a senior infielder at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, also led the Waves in walks (27) and hit five doubles, four triples and a homer.

The Waves are competing in the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan., and open Friday against the Northwest Honkers from Washington.

If things shake out, Ruane could share the field with some big-time former major leaguers. Roger Clemens, Tim Hudson, Roy Oswalt, Josh Beckett and others formed the Kansas Stars to play in the series. Ruane’s Waves would only meet them after pool play next week.
