Kennewick American wins again at Cal Ripken World Series
Continuing to tear its way through the Cal Ripken World Series, Kennewick American beat Ohio Valley 9-6 on Monday at Cal Sr. Yard in Aberdeen, Md., to improve to 2-0 in pool play.
Simeon Howard continued his strong world series performance for Kennewick American by going 3-for-3 at the plate and keeping Ohio Valley (1-1) in check with a strong pitching performance. Howard started and went three innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five to get the win.
Howard got Kennewick American off to a fast start with an RBI double in the top of the first, then was driven in on a base hit by Ben Johnson. Kennewick American would never trail.
Connor Mendez picked up the nine-out save but got into a little bit of hot water when Ohio Valley plated three runs against him in the fifth. Trenton Taylor capped the scoring in the frame with a two-run double, highlighting his three-RBI, three-hit day.
Kennewick American will try to stay undefeated in the National I B Division when it takes on Southeast (0-2) at 5 p.m. PDT Tuesday at Cal Sr. Yard.
The Cal Ripken World Series will run through Aug. 6, when the top American team faces the international champion in a winner-take-all final.
