Local roundup: Southridge Bandits win at Curt Daniels Invite
The Southridge Bandits scored one run in the top of the eighth to defeat Narrows (Gig Harbor) 3-2 on Friday at the Curt Daniels Invitational in Portland.
Brian Black pitched seven innings for Southridge, giving up three hits and striking out 10 before giving way to Tyson Daniels for the final frame.
The Bandits got a 2-for-4 performance at the plate from Nick Grade, who struggled on the mound in Thursday’s 11-2 loss to Baden Baseball (Seattle).
In relief of Bradley Morgan (four runs and seven hits allowed in six innings), Grade was torched for six hits and seven runs — five earned — in the final inning.
Southridge’s Ryan Morgan went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

▪ The Hanford AAA Flames scored all of their runs in the bottom of the third to beat Northern Lakes (Idaho) 4-0 in their Spokane Wood Bat Classic opener.
But the Flames followed that win with an 8-3 loss to the Spokane Northstars, who piled on all of their runs in the first three innings.
The Kennewick AAA Outlaws also went 1-1 in Spokane.
The Outlaws opened with a 6-3 win over the Medicine Hat Monarchs. Kennewick then lost 4-2 to the Spokane Cannons despite having an 8-5 hit advantage.

College baseball
Bellevue (Neb.) catcher Jake Browne (Hanford) was named a North Star Athletic Association Spring Scholar-Athlete.
Browne, who is majoring in sports management, has at least a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average.
Volleyball
Columbia Juniors 17-1 Black went 3-5 through the first three days of the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships in Indianapolis.
Thursday and Friday results were as follows:
Thursday — Columbia Juniors lost to AsicsWillowbrook17Gold 25-17, 22-25, 15-11; d. Invasion 17-Blue 20-25, 25-21, 15-13.
Friday — Columbia Juniors lost to Circle City 17 Black 26-24, 25-8; lost to Club V 17 Red 25-19, 25-22; lost to PSVA 17 Black Elite 25-8, 26-24.
Columbia Juniors will play at 5 a.m. Pacific time Saturday against Zona 17-1.
Hydroplanes
Defending national high points champion Jimmy Shane was the top qualifier for the H1 Unlimited season-opening MainSource Bank Indiana Governor’s Cup.
Shane had a fast lap of 145.877 mph on the 2.89-mile Ohio River course in Madison, Ind.
