Richland-native Bratton wins heat at Olympic Trials

Former Richland High School swimmer Lisa Bratton won her heat and was 26th overall in the women's 400-meter individual medley Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Neb.
Bratton, who swims for Texas A&M University, finished her heat in 4 minutes, 50.50 seconds. Her previous personal-best time was 4:53.36, which she got in August at the 2015 Phillips 66 National Championships. She entered the Trials seeded 88th in the field.
Bratton is scheduled to swim the 100 backstroke Monday, the 200 IM on Tuesday and the 200 back Friday.
Brandon Roy hired to coach at Nathan Hale
Former Washington Huskies star Brandon Roy was hired as the boys basketball coach at Nathan Hale High School in the Seattle area.
Roy, a former Garfield High School standout, was the 2005-06 Pac-10 player of the year at UW.
He played in the NBA from 2006-13 (and was a three-time All-Star and the 2006-07 NBA Rookie of the Year) before being forced to retire because of knee injuries.
This is Roy’s first coaching job.
Legion baseball
The Kennewick AAA Outlaws put five-runs on the board in the first inning Sunday night en route to a 9-1 victory over the Walla Walla Bears in the championship game of the Outlaw Shootout at Roy Johnson Field.
Trent Sellers, Garrett Dixon and Mason Martin each had two hits and drove in two runs for the Outlaws in the title game.
Gerald Hein threw an abbreviated no-hitter and the Outlaws mercy-ruled the Spokane Bandits 10-0 in four innings to reach the championship game of the Outlaw Shootout.
The Outlaws scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back as they scored their 10 runs on 14 hits. Blake Loftus paced Kennewick at the plate with three hits and three RBIs.
Hein struck out six Bandits in his four-inning no-hitter.
On Saturday, a three-run first inning helped the Outlaws to a 4-1 win over the Spokane Cannons.
Dillon Plew went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Outlaws, while Hunter Mulderig pitched five innings, striking out six, for the win.
In other games Saturday at Roy Johnson, the Spokane Northstars beat Bellingham Post 7 4-3, Seattle Tides topped CWBC 8-0, the Spokane Bandits beat the Yakima Beetles 2-0 and Centralia Sobe/Toyota beat Reality Sports 10-2.
At Columbia Basin College, the Hanford Flames beat Reality Sports 7-1, Walla Walla beat Centralia Sobe/Toyota 10-2, the Missoula Prospects and N. Lakes Mountaineers played to an 8-8 tie, and BLE Showcase shut out the Bellgrade Bandits 11-0.

▪ Christian Berry, Caleb Richter, Kyle Corrigan, and Adam Weissenfels combined to throw a one-hitter Saturday to lead the Richland Knights to an 11-1 win over the Hermiston Spuds at the Tri-City Summer Series 17U at Richland High School.
It was the Knights’ fourth win of the tournament.
Josh Ellis added a two-run double in the Knights’ nine-run second inning.
▪ The Twin City Titans won the Papa’s Pizza Invitational in Eugene on Sunday, beating the Southridge Bandits 4-0 in the title game.
Kaden Enriquez threw a complete game shutout for the Titans, striking out seven. He also had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.
Southridge beat the Eugene Bi-Mart Challengers 10-1 in the semifinals as Kyle Harvey drove in three runs and Ryan Sanders pitched a complete game.

▪ Cooper Shelby’s sacrifice fly in the first inning scored the only two runs the Richland Knights would need to beat Montesano Precision Pipe 4-1 and win the 17U Tri-City Summer Series tournament Sunday at Richland High School.
The Knights beat the Hermiston Spuds 11-1 on Saturday to reach the title game.
Easton Stevens and Kooper Swentik each had two hits to help the Kennewick Phantoms beat the Kennewick Dusters 6-3 in the fourth-place game.
In the sixth-place game, the Hermiston Spuds earned a 4-3 victory over the Kennewick Sluggers.
Volleyball
The Team Yakima 15 Gold squad topped Mizuno WI Jrs 15-1’s 25-22, 25-22 on Sunday at the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships in Indianapolis to improve to 3-1 at the tournament.
Playing for Yakima are Richland’s Hailey Daves, Alaina Lacey and Lindsay Rosenthal.
The Team Yakima 14 Gold team ended a six-match losing streak with a pair of wins.
The team, which features Richland’s Emma Lee, beat Sky High 14 Purple 24-26, 25-22, 15-10, then followed with a 25-21, 23-25, 15-12 win over CJV 14-2.
Prep track
The parents of an Oregon high school champion pole vaulter pierced in the eye by a javelin say their son’s vision is blurry but he can see out of the eye.
Barry and Carrie Kennedy in a statement released through Oregon Health and Science University in Portland said Parker Kennedy, 18, is in fair condition.
Parker Kennedy was injured Friday night after he tripped during a Portland track meet.
Kennedy is a graduate of Hood River Valley High School and won the 5A pole vault at the state championship last month.
