Mid-Columbia roundup: Townsend, Sellers pitch Outlaws to sweep
Andrew Townsend threw a complete game, striking out three, to lead the Kennewick Outlaws to a 5-3 victory over the Columbia Basin Spuds in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader in Moses Lake.
In the second game, Trent Sellers threw six strong innings, and Mason Martin and Blake Loftus drove in runs as the Outlaws held on for a 2-1 victory.

▪ The Hanford Flames and Walla Walla Bears split their doubleheader Tuesday. The Bears took the opener 4-0, while the Flames won the second game 4-1.
The Bears got outstanding pitching from Mitch Lesmeister and Roger Ingram in the first game, and Brad Poletski and Trevor Smith each had two hits for the Flames.
In the second game, Nate Rossine and Poletski combined on a three-hitter, while Carsten Manderbach put Hanford up 2-0 in the third with a two-run double. Gavin Waters and Chorde Durflinger also drove in runs for the Flames.
▪ The Twin City Titans (12-12) split their doubleheader with the host Yakima Beetles on Tuesday, taking the opener 10-3 before losing the nightcap 11-10.
McKlane Elgin went 6-for-6 with four RBIs on the day for the Titans, who will play in the Papa’s Pizza Tournament from Friday to Sunday in Eugene.

Soccer
The IMG Academy named Chiawana’s Summer Yates as a top-10 player on its 150-player list that was released Monday.
Yates, an incoming junior, had three goals and an assist for the U.S. U-16 girls national team that finished fourth in April at the International Women’s Tournament of Gradisca in Italy.
Softball
The Washington Angels 18 Gold-Benson team clinched a berth in next month’s ASA 18 Gold Nationals in Oklahoma, finishing second in an ASA territorial qualifier in Hillsboro, Ore.
The USA Explosion-Thompson team, which went 4-2 at the tournament, also will go to nationals.
Golf
Two Tri-City pros have qualified for the 49th PGA Professional National Championship that begins Sunday at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y.
Jason Aichele from Meadow Springs Country Club and Clint Ables, the new head pro at Tri-City Country Club, will compete in the four-day event, which will be shown on the Golf Channel.
The event, which has 312 entrants, features a $550,000 purse. The champion’s name also will be inscribed on the Walter Hagen Cup.
The top 20 finishers will earn an exemption into the PGA Championship in July.

The Tri-Cities Fever will give away a pair of tickets to the July 10 KISS concert at Toyota Center during their final home game Saturday, in honor of 9th Man Fan Appreciation Night. Fans can register to win at the Fever team store. The drawing will take place in the second half. You must be present to win.
