Local athletes win Fiasco in Pasco

Nick Hetro of Richland and Jennifer Comfort of Pasco were the winners of the Three Rivers Road Runners Fiasco in Pasco Duathlon on Saturday.

The race consisted of two 5-kilometer runs sandwiched around a 30K bike ride.

Hetro finished in 1 hour, 26 minutes, 8 seconds. Comfort, the 2015 women’s champion, was timed in 1:44:26.

High schools

Kamiakin will hold a signing ceremony for student-athletes at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the school cafeteria.

College baseball

Colin Serkowski (Hanford) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as Trinity University beat Pacific Lutheran University 7-3 in the opening game of the NCAA Division III West Regional in Spokane.

Trinity (36-7) will play again at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at Avista Stadium against the loser of Wednesday night’s Case Western Reserve-Whitworth game.

PLU (26-18), which features former Kamiakin standout Drew Oord, will play at noon Thursday against Cal Lutheran or Texas-Tyler.

▪ Former Hanford players Jake Browne and Trevor Jones combined for three hits, two runs scored and an RBI, but their Bellevue (Neb.) University team lost to Davenport (Mich.) 7-4 in the NAIA Baseball Opening Round Tournament in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Top-seeded Bellevue (48-10) will play an elimination game against the winner of Wednesday night’s York-Clarke game.

Track and field

Seattle Pacific’s Kyra Brannan (Kamiakin) was a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II All-West Region honoree.

Brannan, who made the list in the 4x100-meter relay and long jump, was among eight Great Northwest Athletic Conference athletes to be recognized in two events.

Honorees must be ranked in the top five of an individual event in the region, according to the Track & Field Results Recording System, or run on a top-three relay team.
