Briefs: Aichele wins in Vegas; Bratton fifth in NCAA swim championships

Aichele wins PNW PGA pro-am in Las Vegas

Meadow Springs Country Club pro Jason Aichele won the Pacific Northwest PGA Holcomb-In-One Las Vegas Pro-Am on Wednesday, shooting a 1-over-par 73 at Anthem Country Club to cap a three-day score of 9-under 207.

Aichele finished with 116 points using Stableford scoring, which awards one point for bogeys, two for pars, three for eagles, etc.

Mark Gardner from The Creek at Qualchan in Spokane scored 114, and Billy Bomar of Prairie Falls GC (Post Falls, Idaho) scored 109.

Matt Mendell of Canyon Lakes finished 16th with 89 points. Chris Peterson of Meadow Springs was 20th with 80 points, and Wine Valley’s John Thorsnes was 21st with 79.

Bratton places fifth at NCAA nationals

Texas A&M sophomore Lisa Bratton (Richland) tied for fifth in the 200-yard individual medley at the NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta.

Bratton’s time of 1 minute, 55.89 seconds tied with Cal senior Kelly Naze. Stanford’s Ella Eastin won the even in 1:51.65.

Bratton also swam the backstroke leg of A&M’s medley relay team, which placed ninth in 3:29.61. Bratton finished in 52.70.

▪ Trinity sophomore Danielle Freund (Southridge) won the consolation finals and finished ninth overall in 1-meter diving at the NCAA Division III women’s championships in Greensboro, N.C.

Fruend scored 429.15 points in the final to edge Sierra Becker of Wisconsin-Whitewater by 2.1 points. Her score ranked fifth overall in the finals, but she did not qualify for the championship final coming out of prelims.
