Champion gelding Heza Dasha Fire, owned by Kennewick’s Don and Kathy Meneely, had small bone chips removed from both front knees Friday.

Heza Dasha Fire finished second in Sunday night’s Los Alamitos Winter Championship in Southern California. The chips were discovered Tuesday via X-ray.

“Damage to the joint appears to be minimal,” Don Meneely said in a text message to the Herald. “Everything went according to plan. He will be headed to the pasture soon. Barring any post-surgical complications, he is expected to return to racing in late summer.”

Heza Dasha Fire’s half brother Ima Fearless Hero, who has been recovering from a similar surgery, is expected to start swimming in March and return to the track in April, Kathy Meneely said on the Los Alamitos website.
