Coleman doubles up for EWU track

Eastern Washington University senior Kaytlyn Coleman (Kennewick) took home a pair of golds from the WSU Open Indoor on Saturday, winning the women’s shot put (47 feet, 6 1/4 inches) and weight throw (61-4 3/4).

Coleman ranks second in the West Region in the weight throw and 30th in the nation.

Larry Still (Richland) was third in the men’s pole vault (15-3 3/4).

Gonzaga’s Maggie Jones (Richland) placed sixth in the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 23.06 seconds.

Shot putter Mayfield nationally ranked

Whitworth senior Scott Mayfield (Richland) ranks 26th among Division III shot putters.

Mayfield had a toss of 49 feet,  1/4 inch to finish sixth at the recent Idaho Vandal Indoor Invitational.

Sira Toure transfers to Auburn for hoops

Former Kamiakin standout Sira Toure has joined the Auburn University women’s basketball team after transferring from Weber State.

The sophomore guard played in 19 games for Weber State last season, averaging 2.7 points and 1.3 rebounds. She played in one game this season.

Her older sister, Khadidja, is a junior for East Carolina and is averaging eight points and three rebounds with 15 starts in 20 games. Younger sister Oumou is a standout freshman on the Kamiakin basketball team.

9 Kennewick baseball players sign at YVCC

The Yakima Valley Community College baseball roster will feature a large Kennewick contingent next spring.

Kennewick High’s Charlie DeWitt, Tyler Detloff, Matt Driver and Gerald Hein; Southridge’s Jashaun Simon, Jake Kirchhoff and Kyle Harvey; and Kamiakin’s Easton Henke and Hunter Mulderig have signed letters of intent to play for YVCC next year.

Last season, the Yaks went 23-19 overall and were fifth in the NWAC East with a 12-16 record.
