Wednesday local roundup: Fever signs DL Chavis, assistant coach
The Tri-Cities Fever signed a defensive lineman on Wednesday.
Maurice Chavis is a 6-foot-2, 285-pounder from the University of Texas-El Paso.
Chavis last played at UTEP in the 2014 season, when he started in all 12 games and had 29 tackles.
The Fever also hired another assistant coach this week.
Shon King, a former head coach in the Southern Indoor Football League, will coach the Fever defensive backs.

STATE POLL OUT: Richland is ranked seventh in Class 4A in the latest state high school football poll, as voted by the state’s sports writers and broadcasters. The Bombers are 5-1.
In Class 2A, Prosser is ranked second again. The Mustangs will play at No. 3 Ellensburg on Friday night.
In Class 1A, Royal remains atop the poll, while SCAC East rival Connell is fourth.
Lind-Ritzville-Sprague remains No. 1 in the Class 2B state poll, while Richland’s Liberty Christian is No. 1 still in the Class 1B poll. Touchet is No. 3 in the 1B poll.

COLUMBIA BASIN 3, TREASURE VALLEY 2: Mackenzie Monahan had 19 kills and Morgan Wilder added 17 kills and four blocks as Columbia Basin College rallied back to beat visiting Treasure Valley in an NWAC East match.
“It was just a matter of believing in them and believing in themsselves,” said CBC coach Sandra Olin. “We had a rough week last week when we lost some matches and lost confidence.”
The Hawks improve to 6-3 in NWAC East play, moving them into third place.

The Bombers had at least 13 services aces against the Falcons. Taylor Moody added 12 digs and 18 assists.
