Kennewick’s Schmelzer tops women’s field in Titanium Man
Spokane’s Roger Thompson and Kennewick’s Jamie Schmelzer were the top male and female finishers, respectively, at the Titanium Man Triathlon in Columbia Park on Saturday.
Thompson finished the event in 1 hour, 55 minutes and 50 seconds — ahead of second-place finisher Evan Eck of Missoula, Mont., who clocked in at 2 hours and 26 seconds. Richland’s Jeevan Philip was third at 2:00:38.
Schmelzer finished just ahead of Pasco’s Jennifer Comfort with a time of 2:22:23. Comfort had a 2:24:48, and Spokane’s Nicole Lund was third at 2:26:03.
The event featured a 1.5-kilometer swim, then a 42-kilometer bike ride, and finished off with a 10-kilometer run.
The event was also the sixth and final event of the 3 Rivers Road Runners Club’s Multi-Sport Series.
Richland’s Nick Hetro was the overall men’s multi-sport champion, while Comfort took the women’s title.
