No less than eight Columbia Basin College baseball players have signed letters of intent to play next season at four-year schools, the Hawks’ athletic department has announced.

Middle infielder Lance Anderson (Boise) was headed to Saint Peter’s University, an NCAA Division I school in Jersey City, N.J., that plays in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

But a recent head coaching change there made him decide to re-commit to Arkansas Little Rock — a team that played in the NCAA Division I tournament this spring. Anderson was both an East Region first-team selection as a shortstop, as well as a Gold Glove selection.

Teammate Alex Chamberlain (Mount Si) — who was a first-team NWAC East Region first baseman and an East Region Gold Glove selection — will be playing for Seattle University.

Left-handed pitcher Brayden Walls (Boise) was named an East Region first-team pitcher this spring for the Hawks. Now, he’ll joint teammate Anderson and play for Arkansas Little Rock.

CBC third baseman Cole Rohlmeier (Meridian, Idaho) was named an East Region Gold Glove pick. He’ll play next season at The Master’s University in California.

The other four Hawks moving on are first baseman Caleb Eisenhower (Bend, Ore.) to Arkansas Fort Smith; outfielder-pitcher James Lawrence (Parker, Colo.) to Metro State University-Denver; pitcher Joe Pitts (Spokane-Central Valley) is headed to UConn; and pitcher Dylan Schlenger (Edmonds-Woodway) signed with Eastern Illinois.

Hawks manager Stefan McGovern led his team to a 30-22 record and an appearance in the NWAC Championship baseball tournament in May in Longview. CBC went 0-2 in the tournament.

Pitcher Jonathan Garza II (Othello, CBC) was named to the Greater Northwest Athletic Conference’s first team for baseball recently.

Garza, pitching for Central Washington University, was one of the Wildcats’ top starting pitchers this spring. The senior fanned 58 batters in 63.1 innings, and he had an earned run average of 6.11.

Former Tri-City Dust Devils outfielder Steven Rivas is playing for the Cleburne Railroaders in the independent American Association this season.

Rivas, 26, is hitting .275 with 11 home runs and 41 RBIs through 49 games.

Women’s basketball

Former Kamiakin standout Maddy Rendall recently announced her transfer from Oakland University in Michigan to West Florida University.

The school is in Pensacola and is an NCAA Division II school.

Rendall spent her freshman year at Idaho State before moving to Oakland. She is a redshirt sophomore.

Women’s soccer

Chiawana grad Summer Yates has played in 8 matches for the Orlando Pride of the National Women’s Soccer League this season.

Yates, 25, has 1 assist in a campaign for her that has been limited by injuries so far this season.

Men’s basketball

Three members of the Columbia Basin College men’s basketball team will be moving on to the four-year-school ranks this coming fall.

The Hawks (15-12) say goodbye to their team’s top scorer, forward Coleton Hansen (East Valley-Spokane), who is going to play for the University of St. Francis in Illinois.

Hansen averaged 15.7 points for CBC.

The Hawks’ No. 2 scorer, guard Bobby Siebers, averaged 14.1 points. Siebers will play for Evergreen State in Lacey.

And CBC’s No. 3 scorer, guard Kieren Brown (Phoenix, Ariz.) who averaged 12.1 points, is headed to Westminster University in Utah.

Golf

Four members of the CBC men’s golf team have signed letters of intent to play this fall at four-year schools.

Wyatt Hansen (Kamiakin) and Apollos Morris (Southridge) are both headed to Arizona Christian. Eli Harrell (Kamiakin) has agreed to play for George Fox University in Oregon; and TJ Murdock (Othello) is headed to Warner Pacific University.

Hanford High graduate Rose McCartney just completed her two years at Columbia Basin College, where she was a standout golfer for the Hawks.

McCartney was named first-team All-NWAC this spring.

Now, she is headed to Clark University, an NCAA Division 3 school in Worcester, Mass., where she will play for the women’s golf team there.

Boys tennis

Southridge senior Ty Parrish was named the Player of the Year, while Hanford’s Craig Klatt was Coach of the Year when the Mid-Columbia Conference boys tennis all-conference team was recently named.

The Falcons were MCC champions.

Parrish was also a first-team singles player, and was joined by Hanford senior Adam Tan and Kamiakin junior William Stratton.

The doubles team honorees are Hanford sophomore Gabriel Cabasug and freshman teammate David Fu; and Walla Walla sophomore Micah Eggart and freshman teammate Felix Leise.
