NWAC soccer all-stars

Both of CBC’s soccer teams dominated in all-region all-star teams this past week.

The Hawks women had seven representatives on their squad — starting with midfielder Ana Andrade (Wahluke), who was a first-team selection as well as co-MVP with Yakima Valley’s Rachel Farr.

CBC’s Omar Anderson was named East Region Coach of the Year.

Others on the first team were Violet Duran (Southridge) at defender, Hali’a Kalehuawehe (Hawaii) at defender, Kylie Patocka (Nevada) at keeper, Kassadi Suitonu (Southridge) at forward, and Camryn Thoreson (Kennewick) at midfielder.

Walla Walla had two first-teamers: Kaylin Bailey at forward, and Hailey Rogen at defender.

North Idaho’s Maddie Kutschkau, a Kamiakin High grad, was named to the first team at defender.

CBC’s Johnny Ramirez (Eisenhower-Yakima) was named East Region MVP, while Walla Walla’s Casey Collins was voted as East Region Coach of the Year.

Ramirez, of course, was named first team midfielder. Joining him from CBC was Jakob Avila (Davis-Yakima) at defender, Gabriel Delgado (Southridge) at forward, Alexander Magana (Toppenish) at defender, and Raymundo Mendez (Davis-Yakima) at midfielder.

Walla Walla had four first-team all-stars: Chris Aguilera at defender, Osvaldo Moreno at defender, Ryan Solis at keeper, and Julio Tapia at forward.

Girls soccer

Kamiakin opened Class 4A state tournament play on Wednesday night with a 5-1 win over visiting Rogers of Puyallup.

Brooke Christian scored a hat trick, and Mya Lee added two goals, as the Braves were never threatened in the first-round game.

Kamiakin, seeded No. 3 in this tournament, will next play host to No. 6 West Valley of Yakima in the state quarterfinals. The game is set for 11 a.m., Saturday, at Lampson Stadium.

West Valley beat Lewis & Clark 7-0 on Wednesday.

Winner of the WV-Kamiakin game earns a semifinal berth at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup. The final four is Nov. 18-19.

Prep volleyball

The Class 4A District 8 volleyball tournament comes to a conclusion Saturday at two sites.

Richland travels to Gonzaga Prep for a 12:30 p.m. start in the championship match. Both teams advances to the state tournament next week in Yakima.

Meanwhile, Kamiakin beat Hanford 3-0 in a loser-out game Tuesday, while Lewis & Clark did the same to Chiawana by a 3-2 score.

That means LC visits Kamiakin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in a match to determine the district’s third and final state berth.

The match was moved to 5:30 p.m. to allow Kamiakin students to get to the school in time following Kamiakin football’s game at Lampson against Gonzaga Prep. That contest starts at 2 p.m.

Hockey

Quick notes on the Tri-City Americans: The team went 2-4 on its Eastern swing, and sits in seventh place in the Western Conference standings at 7-9-0-0 for 14 points.

How much better are the Ams this year? Last season, they earned their seventh victory on Dec. 11. This year, they got that seventh win on Nov. 4.

TC defenseman Lukas Dragicevic was named WHL Player of the Week that ended Nov. 6. He led all WHL defensemen with 7 points in four games last week.

Forward Jordan Gavin was named the WHL Rookie of the Month for September/October. He scored 14 points in 12 games for Tri-City in that period.

The Ams are back home against Everett on Friday (7:05 p.m. puck drop), then head to Spokane on Saturday.
