Mid-Columbia roundup: Richland’s Moore, Andrus named MCC runners of year
Richland sophomore Riley Moore and junior Katie Andrus were named the Mid-Columbia Conference cross country runners of the year.
Moore won both MCC regular-season boys races, as well as the 4A district title. Andrus won the second MCC girls race of the year and claimed the 4A district championship.
Both runners advanced to state after finishing in the top seven at last weekend’s regional meet in Richland.
Hanford’s Sean Mars (girls) and Southridge’s Andrew Gonzales (boys) were chosen as the coaches of the year. Mars was a repeat selection.

Colleges
Central Washington cross country runner Stephanie Rexus (Kamiakin) and Western Oregon volleyball player Alisha Bettinson (Richland) were named to 2016 Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-academic teams for their sports.
Rexus, a senior studying art/film, has a 3.88 grade-point average. Bettinson, a senior business major, has a 3.71 GPA.
▪ Blue Mountain defeated Columbia Basin College 25-18, 25-17, 14-25, 25-22 in NWAC East action in Pasco. Treiquella Childers had 10 kills and 10 digs for the Hawks, while Kyrsten Whitmore finished with six kills and six digs.
BMCC improved to 20-15 overall and 9-5 in the East Region. CBC is 17-24, 7-7.
