Tri-City Dust Devils

Everett AquaSox’s bursts of offense are too much for Tri-City Dust Devils

The Tri-City Dust Devils struggled to keep the Everett AquaSox from scoring in bunches Thursday night and lost 9-3 at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Everett went ahead 2-0 in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Nick Zammarelli and Jason Goldstein, and led the rest of the way.

The AquaSox (15-6 second half) added two runs in the third, three in the sixth and two in the eighth.

Tri-City’s Wilfri De La Cruz singled in a run in the second, and Chris Mattison hit a two-run home run to center in the sixth. But Everett relievers Lane Ratliff, Michael Koval and Marvin Gorgas held the Dust Devils (8-13) to one hit over the final three innings, and Tri-City stumbled to its fourth loss in five games.

Tri-City starter Logan Allen (0-1) took the loss, allowing four hits and two runs — both earned — in his 21/3 innings of work. He walked one and struck out four.

Everett’s Robert Dugger (1-1) pitched the first five innings and earned the win. He gave up three hits and one run, walked one and fanned seven batters.

The Dust Devils and AquaSox will conclude their three-game set Friday night. Division leader Everett won the first two games of the Northwest League North series.
