Asuncion, Baker lead Dust Devils past Hawks
Luis Asuncion hit two doubles to drive in the tying and eventual game-winning runs to lead the Tri-City Dust Devils to a 7-6 win over the Boise Hawks Tuesday in Boise.
Asuncion’s first RBIs came in the top of the third when he laced a one-out double to left to score Chris Baker and Kyle Overstreet to tie the game at three. He then drove in the run that put the Dust Devils (8-11, second half) up for good with another double in the fifth that again plated Baker to make the score 4-3.
Baker smashed a double in the eighth that drove in Wilfri De La Cruz and Nate Easley as important insurance runs. Baker went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs in total.
Luis Castro pulled the Hawks (8-11) back within a run in the bottom of the eighth with a two-out, two-run homer, but Jose Ruiz shut the door on Boise with a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his first career save.
San Diego Padres first round pick Eric Lauer (25th overall) faltered a bit for the first time in his Dust Devils career, giving up three runs — all earned — on five hits in his 3 inning start. Coming into the game, Lauer had not allowed a run in his first 13 innings for Tri-City.
After taking three-out-of-five from Boise, the Dust Devils will head to Everett for a three-game series with the Northwest League North division-leading AquaSox (13-6), beginning at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. Joey Lucchesi (LHP, 0-1, 1.61 ERA) will start the opener for Tri-City, trying to extend his own 13-inning scoreless streak.
